410 km Alpe Bike Path
From Salzburg - the city of Mozart, via the Alpe Adria Trail to our Hotel Bristol in Bad Gastein and then to Italy to our Casa Alpe Adria.
6 - 8 magnificent bike stages
The bike path first runs upstream from Salzburg, mostly quite flat, along the Salzach - towards the south, before overcoming the first metres of altitude over the Lueg pass. The route continues to Bischofhofen, partly on the B159 with car traffic.
The 2nd stage leads from St. Johann im Pongau to Schwarzach an der Salzach. After Schwarzach now follows the ascent to the Gasteinertal valley, arrived in Klammstein follows a rather flat environment until the ascent to Bad Gastein.
At the back of the valley you now reach the village of Böckstein, from here you continue towards the Tauernschleuse. Here the Tauern Mountains are crossed by train in just 12 minutes. Arriving in Mallnitz, at the other end of the tunnel, a fantastic descent leads down into the Mölltal valley, you follow the river to Möllbrücke and now change to the Drau cycle path into the Drau valley to Spital.
To get from Spittal to Villach, simply follow the idyllic Drau Valley.
In Villach you already change to the Gail cycle path to enter the Gail valley, now you cross the Italian border behind Maglern. Here the well-maintained FVB1 (Friuli-Venezia Giulia 1) trail leads to Tarvis.
Between Tarvis and Resiutta, the cycle path largely follows the route of the old Pontebbana railway line and leads through the Canal Valley and the Canal del Ferro. This section is completely off-road, asphalted and there are countless rest stops.
Minor secondary roads and cycle paths lead through the hilly Po Valley to Udine, one of the largest cities along the tour after Salzburg.
Now comes the last stage of the tour, which leads through the planned town of Palmanova and the Roman town of Aquileia until finally reaching Grado through a dam.
